FreeMarket Actual Play Session 4 Finale
Our time on the Cassini-Huygens Orbital Intrasystem Relay Station comes to a close. We wrap up our contract with People’s Energy Corporation, discover some interesting tidbits about Syntax_Error’s family. Derek Blaze re-establishes his reputation in a rather unorthodox way, and Muse gets creeped out. To cap things off, we demonstrate a Tier Challenge, and put The Report up for review by the whole station.

One small clarification from the end of this session: I confirmed with Jared that your MRCZ tags can be what ever you want. They do *not* have to have 1 tag that is an experience. That said, it’s probably a good idea to have at least one tag as one of the experiences, or you’ll find MRCZ Tier Challenges very difficult.

Cool. I’ve enjoyed listening to all of these, and I’m definitely looking forward to hearing your review and interview (are you going to get both Jared and Luke for the interview?). I’m looking forward to the interview almost as much as I’m looking forward to getting the game itself!

Incidentally, I have some questions about the game that maybe you can answer since you have direct experience with it.
In character creation, it seems like there is a fairly strong mechanical incentive to pick a (the?) generation that gives you a geneline rating of 3 because, if I understand correctly, your geneline rating is about the only thing you can never increase. I can make my experiences, tech, and interfaces all better, right? But my geneline will never have a better rating that what it starts with. Is this a problem at all?
In challenges, it seems like there were a LOT of ties in your group. Is that how its supposed to work? And also, since anyone can call once everyone has had a turn, it seems like it’s nearly impossible to have a very high margin of victory. Is that correct, and does it seem like a problem at all?
finally, as a side note, did i catch a reference to the novel The Scar in this episode? i love that book!

Brian,
Yes, the game is broken. Just choose to play a blank and you’ll win the game.
Re: ties. It’s intentional. You can play to win or play to tie. I’ve actually done pretty well in a challenge (MOV 2) only to keep going in hopes of a tie because I wanted another to set an additional goal. Also, the superuser had a crap-ton of hazard showing and I had zero.
